The renowned actress of Aquaman fame graced the world premiere of her latest project, the movie In the Fire, at the esteemed Taormina Film Festival in Italy on June 23. This event marked her triumphant return to the red carpet, following the conclusion of her highly publicized defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp over a year ago.

Donning an elegant black caped maxi dress, complemented by matching platform sandals, Heard exuded confidence as she let her long blonde hair flow in loose curls. With a contagious smile, she posed for photographs on the teal-toned carpet, both in solitude and alongside her co-stars, including Luca Calvani, Eduardo Noriega, Yari Gugliucci, and their director, Conor Allyn. Notably present at the festival was actor William “Billy” Baldwin, who attended to promote the animated comedy Billie’s Magic World, a delightful film featuring his brother Alec Baldwin.

This compelling movie, with its release date yet to be announced, stands as Heard’s final acting endeavor prior to her involvement in the defamation trial with Johnny Depp. Filming took place in Italy during early 2022, several months before the trial commenced in April of the same year. Furthermore, audiences can anticipate seeing Heard reprising her captivating portrayal of Mera in the highly anticipated Aquaman sequel. The film, shot in 2021, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20th.

Following the conclusion of the trial on June 1, 2022, Amber Heard chose to maintain a low profile, distancing herself from the public eye. However, in recent months, particularly in May, the actress has been captured by photographers in the streets of Madrid. Notably, during these encounters, she engaged with the local paparazzi, expressing her affection for Spain in fluent Spanish on multiple occasions. The trial reached its conclusion, resulting in a victory for Depp, who, in a noteworthy comeback, made his own return to the red carpet in May. The occasion was the premiere of the film Jeanne du Barry at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival.

Depp had initiated a legal battle against Heard, seeking $50 million in damages. A jury ultimately held the actress accountable for defamation based on a 2018 op-ed published in The Washington Post under her name. The op-ed explicitly referred to her as a survivor of domestic abuse, without directly naming Depp. Notably, back in 2016, during a restraining order hearing, Heard had publicly accused Depp of domestic violence, which he vehemently denied at the time.

The jury’s decision highlighted the impact of the op-ed in tarnishing Depp’s reputation, thereby attributing liability to Heard for her defamatory statements.

In the aftermath of the jury’s decision, Amber Heard found herself obligated to pay Depp over $10 million in damages. While the ruling was perceived by Heard as a “setback” for women, she did achieve a modest triumph of her own through a $100 million countersuit against the actor. Concurrently, the jury also ruled in her favor, compelling Depp to pay her $2 million. This outcome stemmed from his lawyer’s accusations of her involvement in a “hoax.”

After both actors initially appealed their respective verdicts, they eventually chose to withdraw their appeals and reach a settlement in December of the previous year. As part of the agreement, Amber committed to paying her former spouse a sum of $1 million. In recent times, a source closely associated with the renowned Pirates of the Caribbean star revealed to E! News that Depp intends to distribute the received funds among five charitable organizations, showcasing his philanthropic intentions.
