Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has urged Michigan voters to support former President Donald Trump, acknowledging that “the likelihood is” his name will still appear on the state’s ballot after a legal battle to remove it fell short.
Speaking at a town hall hosted by “Real America’s Voice” in Lansing, Michigan, Kennedy, who endorsed Trump following the suspension of his campaign in August, told attendees, “You need to vote for Trump in this state,” drawing applause from the crowd. “In Michigan, I’m going to still – the likelihood is I’m going to still be on the ballot.”
Kennedy, who secured ballot access in Michigan as an independent candidate through the Natural Law Party, initially sought to withdraw his name from ballots in competitive and traditionally Republican states after exiting the presidential race. However, Michigan courts, along with a federal judge, denied his requests, keeping him on the ballot in the crucial battleground state.
Throughout his campaign, Kennedy frequently criticized the political system, alleging it was “rigged” against him. During the town hall, he laid the groundwork for questioning Michigan’s election integrity when asked by a voter about measures to prevent “widespread systemic election fraud,” which federal, state, and local officials have repeatedly stated has no evidence of occurring in Michigan.
Kennedy called for the implementation of paper ballots nationwide and cautioned against mail-in voting, stating, “We need to be very, very careful using mail-in ballots.” He also emphasized, “We need to make sure that people who are illegal, undocumented immigrants, cannot vote in our elections,” arguing that current safeguards are “completely ineffective to guarantee that result.”
Michigan election officials, who began distributing absentee ballots this week, have reiterated that the state uses paper ballots and that it is illegal for noncitizens to vote. They have outlined rigorous measures to protect the voting process and have committed to prosecuting those who violate election laws.
