In the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, issued today (February 15, 2024), Morocco emerges as the top-ranked African men’s national football team, closely pursued by Senegal, Nigeria, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire.
This follows the conclusion of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, February 11, where Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat to host Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.
Despite their loss, Nigeria’s Super Eagles made a significant leap in the global rankings, climbing 14 places from 42nd to 28th position overall, and rising from sixth to third place in Africa.
FIFA awards points based on the outcomes of all recognized international matches, resulting in the following rankings for the top 20 African men’s national football teams:
1. Morocco: First in Africa, 12th in the world.
2. Senegal: Second in Africa, 17th in the world.
3. Nigeria: Third in Africa, 28th in the world.
4. Egypt: Fourth in Africa, 36th in the world.
5. Cote d’Ivoire: Fifth in Africa, 39th in the world
6. Tunisia: Sixth in Africa, 41st in the world.
7. Algeria: Seventh in Africa, 43rd in the world
8. Mali: Eight in Africa, 47th in the world.
9. Cameroon: Ninth in Africa, 51st in the world.
10. South Africa: 10th in Africa, 58th in the world.
11. Burkina Faso: 11th in Africa, 61st in the world.
