The National Examination Council (NECO) released the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) on Thursday in Minna, Niger State. The examination results, conducted 55 days ago, revealed that 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55% of the 1,367,736 who sat for the exam, passed with five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.
Announcing the results, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, revealed that 1,147,597 candidates achieved five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics. He also disclosed that 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice, a decrease compared to the 22,030 cases recorded in 2023.
During the examination, 40 schools across 17 states were found guilty of “Whole School (Mass) cheating.” Wushishi stated, “They (schools) will be invited to the Council for discussion, after which appropriate sanctions will be applied.”
He added that “One school in Ekiti was recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject.” Additionally, 21 supervisors from 12 states were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence.
A total of 1,376,423 candidates registered for the examination, with 706,950 males and 669,473 females. Among them, 2,267 were candidates with special needs. Professor Wushishi advised all candidates to check their results on the NECO website.
