The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted the visa restriction on Nigerian travelers, as announced by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday.
In October 2022, the UAE had banned citizens from around 20 African nations, including Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana, and others, from entering its borders. This led to a diplomatic dispute between the UAE and Nigeria, particularly concerning flight allocations and travel restrictions.
President Bola Tinubu intervened in August 2023 to address the visa issuance issues and the conflict with Emirates Airlines, which had stopped flights to Nigeria. By June 2024, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed that the dispute between the two nations had been resolved.
