According to a report by Tot Costa of Catalunya Radio, Barcelona has received a €100 million offer from a Qatari team interested in using the Blaugrana’s name. Rather than transferring Barcelona’s name to the Qatari league, the proposal suggests that a team would incorporate something related to Barcelona’s name as part of their own. This concept is similar to what Manchester City has done with their various franchises.
For instance, clubs like Mumbai City FC, Melbourne City FC, and New York City FC have adopted the Cityzens’ name as part of their franchise. Barcelona is currently facing significant financial challenges, which played a major role in their inability to secure a deal for Lionel Messi’s return during the summer transfer window.
However, if Barcelona were to accept the substantial financial offer for another team to use their name in a franchise, it could potentially provide a boost to the Catalan club’s finances and aid them in the upcoming summer transfer market.
